Changelog

What changed in each update of Skyward Oath, newest first.

Each update has a version number, vMAJOR.MINOR.PATCH: the first figure for a major release, the second for new features and content, the third for fixes alone.

v1.6.0

Play-test

Your game now lives on the server, the events come alive, the arena fights real players, and new familiars to chase.

New

  • Your game is kept safe on the server: every summon, capture and fight is decided there, so your progress follows you to any phone.
  • The raid remade: walk the Frostfall Reach's five zones, find raid bosses of your own on the road, call your allies for help and share in every fall.
  • The arena fights other players' own teams.
  • Every raid, arena and Spire run ranks its players, and your rank's rewards come to your Mail when it ends.
  • Fair Winds, the fourth week of each month: the story's zones pay 1.5 times the XP and gold, with a gift for each of seven days you log in.
  • Each event opens with its own summons in your hands, its own login gifts, and a reward track you can watch fill.
  • The Summon Ticket: pays for a summon of the running event.
  • Every event shows off its featured familiar and exactly what it brings to that event.
  • Starwatch and Grand Starwatch: Starstones every day for a month, and Grand Starwatch lets you choose an Epic.
  • Each event has its own set in the Treasury, and you can restore your morale when it runs out.
  • A Hero's Welcome: the crew's gift of Dawn, Moon and Dusk summons when the tutorial ends.
  • Invite a friend: enter a friend's code when you start, and you both earn Moonstars and a Duskstar when your Hero reaches level 10.
  • New familiars: Ingrid Whitepaw, the Snow Leopard, the raid's Legendary for its top ranks in Sir Morcant's place; Kaela, the Comet Blade, on days 60 and 90 of the 90 Days Login Bonus; the Skyward Spire's own cast; Sigrun Hrimfist and Ulla Tuskfang in the raid.
  • The Events page: this month's calendar, the running or next event with its countdown, and what's coming.
  • Events still to come show a "Coming soon" teaser.
  • Terms of use, and Help and support in Settings.
  • A new app icon: Cael, sword raised against the sunrise, and the app is now called Skyward Oath under its icon.

Changed

  • Info's notices remade as cards.
  • The Dawn and Moon Summons each have their own painting.
  • New looks for two lines: Odile Silkfang, the Spider Thief, and Kassia Delos, the Storm Fencer.
  • The arena's and PvP's banners repainted.
  • Each familiar's watercolour now matches its rarity.
  • The Skyward Trials and the Zenith Summon: an Epic or better sure on their upper floors, each with a chance at a Legendary.
  • The Reliquary keeps its Legendary in its last box.
  • The Halo Summon's three summons for 280 Starstones.
  • Ankhor, the Brazen Giant, is stronger.
  • The Skyward Spire's battles are fairer.
  • Sound effects are off for now, until new sounds and music arrive.

Fixed

  • The zone board runs much more smoothly as your Hero hops around it.
  • An event's points to go never show below zero.

v1.5.0

Play-test

Two new Legendaries, over a hundred new familiars, every island's foes remade, and summons that show off what they can bring.

New

  • Two Legendaries to summon: Astrid, the Sky Valkyrie, who shields her allies behind a wall of wings, and Seraphine Ashcroft, the alchemist whose Liquid Fire pours molten gold over the foe. Each has a skill animation all her own.
  • The Zenith Summon: climb seven tiers with Seraphine featured, every tier richer than the last, a Legendary waiting at the top.
  • 34 new familiars to summon, each with its stronger form, its own skill name and its own story.
  • Every foe of the Sun Isles and the Frost Isles remade, each fitting the island it fights on, from the Reed Marsh to the Grotti Mill.
  • Every kind met aboard the Halcyon gains its stronger form.
  • The 90 Days Login Bonus: a reward every day you play, with six familiars of its own along the way, Varran with his own Magma Cleave.
  • Seren, the Kintsugi Knight, the tower's new reward, and Sir Morcant, the Black Drake, for the raid's top points.
  • Every familiar's skill now plays as an animation of what it does: slashes, volleys, storms, breath, heals and shields, in its element's colours.
  • Posters for every summon: the familiar large, its stats and its skill shouted out, on the Summon page, in Info and on the Crypt's banner.
  • The Summon page remade, each summon's featured familiar across the whole page.
  • A watercolour splash in each familiar's element behind it in its details.
  • The Starstone, remade as an opal star.
  • The shop as a showcase: pick an item from the shelf and see it on its stage, the best sets first.
  • The map pins remade: each one a little scene of its place, easier to spot.
  • Your Profile remade: your lineup turning on a dais in a gold window.
  • The Familiars page sharpened, three to a row with each level in large white type.
  • Join our Discord from Settings.

Changed

  • One morale bar for PvP and the raid.
  • Numbers are written with commas everywhere, and very large ones shorten to 123.5M.
  • Game Over offers a Phoenix Feather or Egg when you have none, and a fight lost with your Hero down keeps your place in the zone.
  • A summoned Rare or better that doesn't fit your crew waits in Mail's General tab.
  • Dismiss names every Epic or better you picked before you say yes.
  • The world map fills the screen.
  • The tutorial goes straight onto its boards, without the Prepare stops.
  • Raid bosses stay for an hour before they escape.
  • The raid's boss is now the Frostfall Empress.

Fixed

  • The game no longer runs out of memory and restarts on the zone board, after fights or after a ten-summon.
  • Tapping Go quickly no longer skips steps or doubles them.
  • A summon, a pack or a gift is never bought twice by a double tap.
  • Tick's word when a tutorial fight is lost, and the boar's capture comes back after a reload.
  • Text spilling out of its box, tabs running off the screen on smaller phones, and many more small fixes.

v1.4.0

Play-test

Eight new Heroes, each with a skill all their own, a new title screen, and the Cargo Hold in the Halcyon's look.

New

  • Eight new Heroes: Cael, Kallias, Djedi, Akane, Ylva, Feng, Ezar and Nur, each glowing with the light of their skill.
  • Every Hero's skill has its own name and its own animation. The Hero's portrait sweeps across the screen the first time it fires in a fight, then Cael's griffin dives on the foe, Kallias hurls a forked lightning javelin, Djedi sends out golden scarabs or a wave of healing gold, Akane empties both revolvers, Ylva calls down a falling star, Feng rains sunfire arrows, Ezar's golden crescents cut an X through the foes, and Nur's fireball bursts into a whirling tornado of fire.
  • A new title screen: the eight Heroes together on a floating island at sunrise.
  • The Crypt shows off your rarest familiars and your Hero on the deck: swipe to turn through them, tap one to open it.
  • New foes: the Brood, Apep's serpent-folk, guard the Brig and lurk in the Crew Quarters and the Reed Marsh.
  • The Cargo Hold in the Halcyon's look: the Halcyon Watchman, the goblin smugglers, the Galley Boar and the Sky Urchin, a dockside pickpocket.

Changed

  • The opening movie plays slower, and a tap moves on to the next scene.
  • The Crypt's banner appears together with its frame, and you can swipe it either way.
  • The title screen simply says "Tap to start".

Fixed

  • Your Hero now lands right on a chest or treasure instead of stopping halfway.
  • The opening's Next button no longer jumps aside when tapped.
  • Text spilling out of its box on a few screens, and the shop cut off at the top.

v1.3.0

Play-test

Touch and hold to learn about anything, a new store, and smoother summons.

New

  • Touch and hold: hold almost anything for half a second to see what it is or does, from items, coins and skills to familiars, foes and fighters mid-battle.
  • Dismiss several at once: hold a familiar to pick every one of its kind or rarity. Hold a familiar in your list for quick actions: Details, Lock, Evolve, Raise Skill, Infuse and Dismiss.
  • A new store in three tabs: Specials, with the Maiden Voyage Pack and the Maiden Voyage Summon for new players; Exclusive, with the Dusk Bundle and each event's set; and Starstones, with every pack's first purchase doubled.

Changed

  • Tapping during a summon now speeds it up without skipping the moment its rarity is revealed, and you always see each familiar before moving on. Skip All still skips everything.
  • The band with the game's name at the foot of each screen is shorter.

v1.2.1

Play-test

A fix for summoning.

Fixed

  • The game no longer restarts at the end of a ten-summon, showing its loading screen and coming back on the home screen: a summon now asks far less of your phone, and looks just the same.

v1.2.0

Play-test

A new story and its villain: Apep, who would swallow the sun, and the Halcyon's voyage on to Concordia.

New

  • Apep's story: his servants have crept aboard the Halcyon and chained her heroes, and Tick, the ship's brass owl navigator, tells the tale.
  • Apep at the bow: a cinematic last fight on the Top Deck as the sun goes black, against a colossus who acts twice a turn.
  • After Apep, the Halcyon sets sail for Concordia, the crew's home base, with a short scene as she arrives.
  • A new Summon page: every summon as a banner along the top, its featured familiar in a showcase under it, and the buttons to summon.
  • HP bars that feel each blow: what a hit takes lingers and drains away, a heal glows ahead of the bar, and big hits burst out in gold.
  • The Starstones page and its pop-out, redesigned.

Changed

  • Each summon looks as good as its draws: the Dusk Summon in a grand gold frame with ruby buttons, the Moon Summon moonlit, the Starstone summons gleaming.
  • The right-hand Summon button summons as many as you hold, up to ten, and summons of a hundred are gone.
  • A summon's familiars are listed rarest first, and a summon opens straight away.
  • The tower is now the Skyward Spire, repainted, with Bronze, Silver and Golden Keys, Starmotes and the Starfall Fountain.
  • A familiar's and a Hero's details have new stat icons, XP and gauges, and a larger figure.
  • New pictures for gold (the winged sun), the level badge, To Battle! and the Victory banner, and the events' pages in the new look.
  • Last words come one fall in twenty, and a fall no longer holds up the fight.
  • Starstone prices never show an estimate in real money.

Fixed

  • In the tutorial, you can look around the board and open the Map at a fork.
  • The tutorial's cards no longer cover the buttons they point to.
  • The Moon Summon's count shows again, and the home screen's rank box sits clear of the buttons beside it.

v1.1.0

Play-test

A whole new look: the game is now Skyward Oath, set aboard a sky-ship among the broken islands of the heavens.

New

  • Skyward Oath: a new name, logo, title screen and app icon, and a bright new world of floating islands.
  • The Halcyon, your sky-ship: the first region is its decks, from the Cargo Hold to the Top Deck, and the tutorial now takes place aboard.
  • Two new realms to voyage through: the Sun Isles and the Frost Isles, each with its own map, lands to walk and places to fight.
  • A new home screen on the ship's deck, with your Hero's XP shown around their portrait, energy and morale side by side, and More opening as a star chart.
  • An opening movie, and a tutorial with a guide who walks you through your first voyages, summons and fights.
  • Everyday PvP: meet other players' crews on your voyage, win streaks, climb the Daily Win Ranking and replay or take revenge on a loss.
  • Allies: send and accept ally requests, and send your allies gifts.
  • Exclusive summons for Starstones, with limited-edition familiars, and Lothar, Grave Keeper, a new Legendary in the Dusk Summon.
  • Treasure on the road you can see: chests burst open as you reach them.
  • Info, with news of what is happening now and what is coming next.

Changed

  • New names everywhere: Summon, Evolve, Crew, Voyage, Market, Bag, Mail and Hero; Starstones, Dawnstars, Moonstars, Duskstars and Flarestars; Valor, the Grand Clash and the Oath Prism.
  • Summoning remade: an altar in the summoning hall, a crystal that climbs to its rarity, and a summary of everything you drew.
  • Fights feel bigger: a cinematic way in and out, a real blow with every attack, struck fighters shake, and new Victory and Defeat crests.
  • Walking the voyage is a hop a step, with dust kicked up as you land.
  • Every screen, popup and button in the new ivory, gold and lapis look, with new pictures for items, coins and treasure.
  • Evolving, raising a skill, infusing and devouring each have their own animation.
  • Fifty more familiars drawn, and every Epic or better familiar now glows with effects for its rarity.

Fixed

  • No screen moves side to side any more.
  • A locked familiar, or one in a brigade, can no longer be used up by mistake.

v1.0.0

Play-test

The first play-test on iPhone, through TestFlight.

New

  • Eight Heroes to choose from, each with their own look, stats and skills.
  • Over a hundred kinds of familiars to collect, from Common to Legendary, each with its own forms and skill.
  • The story: 17 areas across three regions, 77 zones walked a step at a time, with bosses to bring down and familiars to capture after a fight.
  • Battles fought by your lineup in three rows, with skills, orders for whom to go after, a forecast before each fight and a report after it.
  • Four summons to draw familiars from, and Evolve: evolve with a duplicate, raise a skill, infuse and devour.
  • Events, one at a time: the raid, where everyone strikes the same boss; the arena against rivals; and the tower's dungeons.
  • The shop and its items, a login bonus for your first 30 days, the mail and the Collection.
  • Three brigades to switch between, sound, and vibration on iPhone.
